Who is the first Pakistani-American to hold a high position
in the White House?
US President-elect Joe Biden has announced the nomination of
Ali Zaidi, a Pakistani national, as his Deputy National Climate Adviser for his
climate team.
Ali Zaidi, 33, was born in Pakistan and is the first
Pakistani-American to hold any senior position in the White House.
Ali Zaidi grew up in the Pennsylvania wrist belt after migrating
from Pakistan. He also assisted the Obama administration in drafting and
implementing the Climate Action Plan and in negotiating the Paris Agreement.
Joe Biden has announced his Climate and Energy team, saying
that on the first day of the transition, he will push his agenda to address the
problems facing the world due to climate change.
After the nomination, Ali Zaidi wrote in a tweet that
"in order to tackle the environmental crisis, we need a comprehensive
approach by the government that will create jobs and bring justice."

Biden's transition team has also issued a press release
describing Ali Zaidi as an environmentalist and longtime adviser to the newly
elected president.
