Fawad Alam and Mohammad Rizwan long jump in the new Test rankings
Fawad Alam excellent second-century century lifted him to 102nd position, Rizwan's 47th, Ken Williamson overtook Smith and Kohli to take the first position.
After the first Test against New Zealand, Pakistani middle-order batsman Fawad Alam and wicketkeeper Muhammad Rizwan have made long jump in the latest ICC Test player rankings. Fawad Alam's excellent second-century lifted him 80 places to 102nd position, while wicketkeeper Mohammad Rizwan's scores of 71 and 60 took him 27 places up to the career-best 47th position in the first innings. Faheem Ashraf, who scored 91 runs, has moved up to 94th position.
Left-arm fast bowler Shaheen Afridi jump up from 35th to 33rd after taking four wickets in the first innings. Fast bowler Naseem Shah moved from 58th to 53rd position while all-rounder Faheem Ashraf has re-entered the Test rankings with 61st position.
New Zealand captain Ken Williamson won the first Test against Pakistan in the ICC Test Player Rankings, leaving behind Steve Smith and Virat Kohli.
ICC Test player Rankings for Batsman
Williamson won the first position for a short time at the end of 2015 and since then the battle for the first position has been going on in Steve Smith or Virat Kohli. This year too, Steve Smith was in the first position for 313 days and Virat Kohli for 51 days, after which Williamson, who played with him in the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2008, left him behind. Williamson scored 139 points against Pakistan in 129 and 21 innings, 11 points ahead of Kohli and 13 points ahead of Steve Smith.
Kohli has returned to India after giving birth to his first child after playing the first match of the Test series against Australia, while Steve Smith managed to score 0 and 8 in the Melbourne Test. Ross Taylor has jumped from 17th to 14th position.
ICC Test player Rankings for Bowler
26-year-old fast bowler Kyle Jamieson has joined the top 30 bowlers' rankings with five wickets in the first Test. In Kohli's absence, captain Ajinkya Rahane has moved up five places to 112 and 27 not out in the Melbourne Test, his sixth position since October 2019.
Off-spinner Ravi Chandran Eshwan has moved up two places to 7th and fast bowler Jaspreet Bumrah has moved up from 10th to 9th position. All-rounder Ravindra Jadeja scored 57 runs in his lone innings in the Melbourne Test to take his career-best 36th position while moving up four places to 14th in the bowlers' rankings. He is third in the all-rounders and is only 7 points behind West Indies captain Jason Holder instead of 34.
Shoban Gul and Mohammad Siraj have entered the list of batsmen and bowlers at 76th and 77th position respectively. Gul played 45 and 35 not out innings while Siraj took 5 wickets in the match. Australian left-arm fast bowler Mitchell Starc's four wickets helped him regain his career-best 5th position. Matthew Wade's 30 and 40 as openers helped him move from 55th to 50th, while Cameron Green moved up 36 places to 115th.
In Centurion, Faf du Plessis scored 199 runs from 35th to 21st position, while Dan Elgar scored 95 runs to move up 4 places to 20th position. Longi Nagidi jumped from 60th to 56th position. For Sri Lanka, Dinesh Chandimal's innings of 85 and 25 moved him up three places to 38th, while Dhananjaya de Silva jumped from 43rd to 34th and Kosala Perera jumped from 64th to 60th. Left-arm fast bowler Vishwa Fernando jumped from 47th to 45th position with 3 wickets.
