the first Test against New
Zealand since
December 26 due to a thumb injury. According to details, a 17-member national
squad has been announced for the first Test against New Zealand in Pakistan vs New Zealand . National team captain Babar Azam and
opening batsman Imam-ul-Haq will not be available for the first Test due to
thumb injury. Captain Mohammad Rizwan will captain the national team in the
Tests starting this week.
He will be the 33rd Test captain to lead Pakistan. The tour
selection committee has replaced Imam-ul-Haq with opener Imran Butt in the
17-member Test squad.
Muhammad Rizwan (captain of the first Test), Sarfraz Ahmed,
Shadab Khan, Abid Ali, Azhar Ali, Shaun Masood, Fawad Alam, Sohail Khan, Yasir
Shah, Muhammad Abbas, Imran Butt, Haris Sohail, Naseem Shah, Shaheen in the
17-member national squad Shah Afridi, Fahim Ashraf are included.
The first Test between New Zealand v Pakistan will be played at Mount Mangnoi from December 26 to 30, while the second Test will be played at Christchurch from January 3 to 7, 2021. It is to be noted that Babar Azam's right thumb and Imam-ul-Haq's left thumb were fractured due to a ball hit during training in Queenstown last week due to which Babar was also out of the T20 series. Both the players are still in net practice. However, the PCB medical panel is constantly reviewing their injuries and a decision on whether to take part in the second Test, which starts on January 3 in Christchurch, will be taken in due course.
