The Higher Education Commission has allowed direct admission
in PhD after BS. PhD can be done in any subject other than the relevant
subject. Students will have to study extra hours in BS. Effective January 1,
2021. According to media reports, in the light of the new policy issued by HEC
for admission in PhD, it will now be possible to get admission in PhD directly
after BS. PhDs will be allowed, but academic committees of universities will
decide on students' eligibility for PhDs and teaching additional subjects.
It has been informed that in this regard, the universities
running PhD program before November 2013 will have to submit the report to HEC
by December 31, 2020, while the universities running PhD program after November
2013 will have to submit the report from December 31. Obtaining NOC first is
mandatory otherwise universities which do not obtain NOC will not be certified.
